Rustic Glam Christmas Tree and Simple Dining Room Holiday Decor

Welcome to the dining room stop on my Christmas home tour, where the big tree is the star. This year I finally love how my large Christmas tree turned out — it feels full, balanced, and perfectly rustic glam for the season.

When we first bought this tree in 2012 I wasn’t sure how I wanted it styled. Over the years I collected ornaments and refined the look, and this season everything finally came together. I used vertical burlap ribbon rather than the usual horizontal wrap, and added a jingle-bell burlap ribbon I found at Hobby Lobby — a simple detail that gives the tree a warm, textured look.

This photo shows how the tree has evolved since 2012. One of my favorite inexpensive additions is my scrapbook paper Christmas garland — a DIY touch that adds color and personality without costing much.

Last year I had a few empty boxes under the tree as props, but this season those wrapped presents are genuine. I finished all my shopping and wrapped every gift before baby arrives — a huge relief and one less thing to worry about.

I used a set of printable gift tags that a friend shared for free, and they make the packages look charming and cohesive. Little details like tags and twine elevate simple kraft-wrapped gifts into something special.

Beneath the tree is a DIY Christmas crate stand I built from pallets. It raises the tree and adds another rustic element to the display. I adore the finished look and the crate tutorial is easy to follow for anyone who wants a custom stand.

In addition to the scrapbook garland, I added some tin roof ornaments I found at Michaels and a few sentimental pieces: a photo ornament of my daughter when she was a baby, paper scrap-covered ornaments I made a couple of years ago, and a snowflake ornament with a missing flake that I love for its imperfect charm.

Another favorite addition from last year is the set of chalkboard wood-slice ornaments. Paired with mercury glass and glittery accents, they help create the rustic glam vibe I was aiming for: a balance of natural textures and delicate sparkle.

I also tracked down a few silk-screened deer ornaments at Target earlier in the season. Shopping early in November paid off — the selection was best then, and the ornaments flew off shelves quickly.

Dining Room: Simple, Rustic, and Ready for Holiday Brunch

Here is the full dining room where we’ll host Christmas brunch. My husband’s family will join us on Christmas morning around my favorite DIY farmhouse table, dressed simply for the season.

I kept the table decor minimal this year because I like a clean, peaceful setting for our holiday meal. A burlap runner, a cluster of bottle brush trees, and a few candles create a cozy, understated centerpiece.

The bottle brush trees were a seasonal find in October while the burlap runner came from a craft store. Most of the remaining pieces were sourced from Target, including cinnamon-scented candles and clear hurricane vases that help set a warm, festive mood.

I have plans for the mirror on the wall and hope to add more wall decor in time. For now, the space doubles as a craft table more often than a formal dining table, and I enjoy using the large farmhouse surface for seasonal projects.

For place settings I used round beaded white dishes that are part of my everyday collection, along with a set of seasonal accent plates I found on sale last year. Those small, pretty plates are a favorite and make the table feel special without overdoing it.
