With the weather warming up, I finally packed away every last trace of Christmas and refreshed my living room shelves for summer. Spring flew by, and I wanted a light, seasonal update without overhauling everything.
Lately I’ve moved toward decorating in a more year‑round, layered style rather than full seasonal swaps, but I still enjoy adding a few timely elements to keep things feeling fresh.

One of the easiest ways to bring a seasonal touch into a room is with new art — and free printable art is one of the most budget-friendly options. A few well-chosen prints can change the mood of a shelf or vignette instantly.

I recently swapped out my red-and-green plaid frames for new wicker scalloped frames and filled them with blue-and-white art to complement the greenery on my shelves. The wicker frames add a relaxed summer texture, while the blue-and-white printables bring a crisp, classic feel.
Even with styling formulas to guide me, I still find bookshelf styling a creative challenge — and that’s part of the fun. I refer back to my usual shelf-styling approach when I want balance: a mix of books, greenery, art, and a few decorative objects at varying heights.

I designed a pair of lemon and blue-and-white chinoiserie printables to tuck into my wicker frames and I’m sharing them for free. One features a lemon tree in a blue-and-white ginger jar and the other shows a classic blue-and-white bowl of lemons. They coordinate without being overly matchy, which I love for a relaxed, curated look.

I clipped the first hydrangea blooms from our bushes for one of the photos — a small perk of having a garden. Small, seasonal clippings and fresh stems are an easy way to make shelves feel more alive in summer.
On the opposite side of the built-ins I placed the printable of a blue-and-white bowl filled with lemons. Together, the two prints create cohesion across the shelves while letting each shelf vignette keep its own personality.

Blue-and-white accents pair beautifully with my Hale Navy walls, white trim, and classic curtains. The combination feels crisp, traditional, and perfectly summery without being fussy.

I also use decorating books as part of my shelf styling — they add height, color, and instant personality. Physical books are a great place to flip through ideas and also serve as attractive decor pieces.

I hope this post gives you a few simple ideas for refreshing your shelves this summer. The free lemon and ginger jar printables are an easy update — tuck them into a frame, add a sprig of greenery, and you’ve got an instant seasonal vignette.

TIPS ON PRINTING PRINTABLE ART DECOR
- Home printer: If you plan to print at home, use a reliable inkjet or photo printer for the best color and detail. If you don’t have a printer, a local print shop can print on quality paper.
- Use cardstock: Print on heavyweight cardstock rather than standard copy paper. Cardstock is sturdier, less likely to tear or show through, and looks more professional in a frame.
- Print size and trimming: These printables are set to print at standard letter size (8.5×11). That’s slightly larger than an 8×10 frame, so trim the edges to fit your frame opening. If the image isn’t fitting properly, adjust the scale in your printer settings.
- Paper finish: Matte or satin cardstock works well for framed art; glossy paper can reflect light and may show fingerprints more easily.
