In one of the earliest posts on this blog I explained why I chose the name The Turquoise Home. That introduction started a conversation about color, identity and the way our homes reflect who we are. Here I want to expand on that idea a little more — to explain what “turquoise” and “home” mean to me, how they shape my decorating choices, and why this combination feels so right.

A name matters. It becomes a brand, an invitation, and a promise. When I named this space The Turquoise Home, I wanted a name that would immediately suggest mood, color, and warmth. Turquoise evokes more than just a hue — it suggests calm energy, coastal breezes and a joyful aesthetic that welcomes family and friends.
Turquoise: I love blue, and turquoise in particular. I surround myself with it: my china is turquoise, my dining room and guest bath are painted in shades of turquoise, and many accessories throughout the house echo that color family. Turquoise reminds me of the ocean — the shifting blues and greens of water at different times of day — and that connection to the sea brings a sense of peace and clarity to interiors. It’s a calming color, but it’s also vibrant enough to make a room feel alive.
That said, the palette of The Turquoise Home is not limited to one color. I enjoy mixing in reds, oranges, pinks, greens, yellows, blacks, browns and grays. Combining these tones with turquoise creates balance and contrast: warm accents lift cool backgrounds, and darker neutrals ground brighter pieces. The only hue you’ll rarely find in my home is purple — it’s not my favorite, even though it’s close to blue on the color wheel.
Home: For me, home is more than decoration. It is a refuge, a place of safety and comfort where family life unfolds. Having a home where I can intentionally create atmosphere and warmth feels like a privilege. Our house is a place where my daughter can grow up surrounded by familiar comforts and consistent values. It’s where my husband and I can slow down, converse, and share quiet moments. It’s where we prepare for the future and nurture each other. We want our home to be a sanctuary — both visually appealing and emotionally sustaining.
Design and color play an important role in building that sanctuary. Thoughtful choices about paint, textiles, lighting and accessories help shape daily experiences. Turquoise, whether used on a wall, a set of dishes, or a throw pillow, becomes a thread that ties spaces together and creates a cohesive sense of place. But style is also about flexibility: incorporating different textures, patterns and accent colors keeps rooms warm and interesting rather than static.
Part of the joy in sharing this blog is inviting others into the process. I love discussing practical decorating tips and the emotional side of making a house feel like home. I also enjoy sharing updates about projects we’re working on — big or small — because those projects are a tangible reflection of how a space evolves over time.
