We love fall around here, and my girls enjoy hosting a s’mores night with their friends. It’s the perfect time to bring out marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers and make an evening out of a simple, delicious tradition.

There’s nothing quite like ending a dinner with friends and family gathered around a warm fire, toasting marshmallows and assembling s’mores. My kids absolutely adore it, and it’s one of those moments that’s as much about the experience as it is about the treat.

First and foremost, you need a source of heat to roast marshmallows. A large outdoor fire pit creates the classic atmosphere, but if space is limited or you prefer a smaller, contained option, an indoor s’mores maker is a convenient alternative for apartment balconies or rainy evenings. Either option gives you the control to keep things cozy and safe while still enjoying that toasted marshmallow flavor.

If you already have a big fire pit, even better — it becomes the focal point for a relaxed, outdoor evening. For nights when a large fire isn’t practical, a portable or tabletop option lets you keep the ritual alive without extra setup.

• Chocolate: classic milk chocolate bars, plus a few premium or flavored options to mix things up.
• Graham crackers: the traditional base, and consider gluten-free options if needed.
• Heat source: a safe fire pit, portable camp stove, or indoor s’mores maker for small spaces.
• Roasting sticks: long, heat-resistant skewers designed for marshmallows and marshmallow safety.
• Serving station: a basket or tray to hold ingredients and utensils for easy access.
• Seating and comfort: Adirondack chairs, floor pillows, poufs, and cozy blankets to create a welcoming space.
