I’m a true Southerner—more specifically, a Tennessee girl. Both sides of my family have deep roots in the state and I’m a proud University of Tennessee graduate. I love the Volunteer State and, even though I currently live just across the border in Alabama, Franklin will always feel like home.
I grew up in Williamson County, the area known for its horse farms, historic neighborhoods, and strong musical tradition. Franklin feels like a storybook southern town—full of charm, preserved architecture, and a welcoming downtown square.
Most Southerners I meet have at least heard of Franklin. The typical reaction is, “I love that place—so quaint!” And they’re right. Downtown Franklin blends old-world character with modern amenities: boutique shops, quality restaurants, and a lively calendar of events. If you love stylish southern decor and unique gifts, Tin Cottage is a must-visit. The store is full of curated pieces—perfect for a housewarming present or a special treat for your own home. They recently relocated to Main Street, which makes it even easier to include on a downtown shopping stroll.
One of my favorite finds there has always been the classic printed tea towels—cute, affordable, and great as gifts or for everyday use.
Favorite Local “Nashville” Shop on Main Street: White’s Mercantile, 345 Main St, Franklin, TN 37064
White’s Mercantile has the comfortable feeling of an old-fashioned general store, stocked with seasonal tabletop pieces, home accents, and a delightful children’s toy section. It’s one of those shops where browsing is the whole point—perfect for discovering small treasures for your home.
Favorite Lunch Date: Gray’s on Main, 332 Main St, Franklin, TN 37064
Housed in a restored Victorian building that once was the Gray Drug Co. pharmacy (built in 1876), Gray’s on Main serves Southern-inspired dishes and often features live music. It’s a great spot for a leisurely lunch or a special meal downtown.
I’ve enjoyed many lunches at Gray’s. Their fried pimento cheese appetizer served with pepper jelly is always a crowd-pleaser. Other favorites I’ve loved include shrimp and grits—comfort food done well—and seasonal pizzas when they’re on the menu.

Five Daughters Bakery opened its flagship location in The Factory at Franklin in 2015.
