Sitting in a room where all the overhead lights are off and only the tree or a string of garland is glowing brings a calm that’s hard to describe. Those quiet moments after the holiday rush make the season feel peaceful and meaningful.
After the flurry of preparing the house for Christmas, I always look forward to settling in with a hot drink and letting the soft light and gentle ambiance remind me what the season is about. It’s a simple ritual, but it centers me and makes all the busy work worth it.

I accepted a fun challenge this year: decorate the house using only twinkle lights and candles. It was a lovely way to end the holiday decorating series because everything feels intentionally simple and cozy. You can curl up with a mug and enjoy every home on the tour—those quiet, candlelit spaces are the perfect way to slow down and appreciate the season.

I like to place my nativity scene in the entryway where it can be seen and appreciated. It’s the heart of my holiday decor because it reflects the true meaning of the season. That said, I have a curious two-year-old who would happily turn each figurine into a handful of pieces if given the chance.
This year I found a simple solution that keeps the nativity visible but out of reach: I set the display up on a box and draped garland in front to disguise it slightly. So far, it’s working—she toddles by, points, and sweetly says “Baby Jesus.” I did buy her a child-friendly nativity set so she can have her own to play with, which keeps everyone happy.
My “O Holy Night” pallet sign is displayed beneath the gallery wall and has become a year-to-year staple in this spot. It fits perfectly and I love that it ties the wall together—one of my favorite DIY projects that I don’t see going anywhere soon.
