How to Style Floral Curtains for Your Office

These delicate floral office curtains are the perfect finishing touch for a feminine blush-and-brass home office.

While searching for sophisticated yet feminine curtains for my office update, I found a lot of appealing choices. I wanted something pretty that tied into my blush-and-brass palette without feeling juvenile or nursery-like. The goal was a subtle, elegant look that reads grown-up and refined the moment you walk in the front door.

If you are decorating a baby girl’s nursery with a refined aesthetic, many of these curtains would work beautifully there as well.

Below I’ll share which curtains I chose (you may remember them from the mood board I shared a few weeks ago) and highlight several other favorites I considered during the search.

If you missed my mood board, it began with the rug under my desk—the whole room design grew from that foundation. I ordered the rug as soon as we moved in to protect our hardwood floors from chair wheels while shaping the room’s color story.

Tip: Mood Boards

You can’t properly design a room without a mood board. Choosing items without seeing how they work together first often leads to a disjointed result. Use a mood board to ensure your colors, textures, and finishes flow together harmoniously.

Floral Office Curtains

I knew I wanted a feminine color palette, but it needed to be restrained because the office is one of the first rooms visible from the front door. I planned on neutral walls (Shoji White) and wanted curtains that picked up the rug’s colors and added a soft, floral pattern for interest.

After a lot of searching, I found gray-and-blush floral curtains that looked promising on my mood board. They arrived looking even better in person—exactly the subtle, elegant pairing I hoped for.

They coordinate beautifully with the rug in real life—photos don’t always capture how colors and textures interact, but in person they create a cohesive, feminine vignette.

I framed a few prints I already had and hung them between the two window panels. The simple frames keep the focus on the curtains and tie the two windows together visually.

The curtain rods I installed came from Amazon, though I’ve had good experiences with similar rods from Target as well. The panels included drapery hooks, which made hanging straightforward, and I added separate curtain rings to achieve the look I wanted.

I prefer hanging curtains on rings rather than threading the rod through the curtain top. Rings allow the panels to be pulled back farther and generally create a cleaner drape. It’s a small detail but it makes a big difference in the final look.

I’m thrilled with how the curtains finished the room. They transformed the space from its original state into a polished, welcoming workspace.

You might notice the decorative panels attached to the back of the desk; they still need a final coat of paint, but the room is inching toward completion. I’m waiting on one last detail, then the full reveal will be ready!

Curtains are an easy way to add texture and pattern. Sometimes a simple linen or velvet panel is perfect, but floral curtains bring both pattern and softness to a space. Below are a few other styles I considered—some are floral, and a couple are solid textures I liked for their simplicity.

The Way to Hang Curtains and Make Your Room Look Larger

Where you place the rod and how wide you hang the panels has a major impact on how large your window and room feel. The “high and wide” rule is simple but powerful: mount the rod higher than the window frame and extend it beyond the window’s sides.

A good guideline: install the rod about 4–6 inches above the window frame and 3–6 inches beyond each side. For length, if you open and close the curtains frequently, leave a small gap (about 1/4–1/2 inch) above the floor. If you want a more luxurious, tailored look, allow 6–8 inches to puddle on the floor.

The Office Reveal

If you missed the full office reveal, I shared the completed blush-and-brass home office a few months after installing the curtains. Stop by the reveal to see how the rest of the room came together and how the curtains integrate with the overall design.
