Happy Monday, my friends! When HomeGoods reached out about helping makeover a space for someone else, I jumped at the chance. I immediately thought of Coach’s school — he teaches and coaches at the nearby county high school — and I knew a little refresh could make a big difference in someone’s day-to-day routine.
Coach contacted the assistant principal, Mrs. Reynolds, and it turned out she was already planning to shop the next day to freshen part of her office. She actually has two connected rooms: one for work and a second room where student aides can study, wait for appointments, or relax between tasks. We decided to focus on that second room and make it warm, welcoming, and more functional.
Mrs. Reynolds had already done some of the groundwork — she picked a lovely fabric, created valances, and painted the walls — so my job was centered on furnishing and accessorizing. Everything was chosen to complement the valance fabric and the freshly painted walls.

Beyond the chair and stool, I found a small side table at HomeGoods and used Mrs. Reynolds’ existing black coffee table after rearranging her larger pieces. To stretch the budget further and add personal character, I brought several decor items from my own stash — things I had planned to sell or donate. They fit the room beautifully and helped create a layered, lived-in look.
On the bookshelf I styled a few key items that make the room feel like a cozy study: a decorative fan clock, faux succulents for low-maintenance greenery, and a small globe that felt perfectly appropriate for a school space. A seasonal pumpkin from my stash added a touch of autumn warmth without feeling overdone.

By the end of the day, the space had been transformed into a cozy corner that feels welcoming to students and staff alike. The new seating provided more places to sit and the accessories made the room feel intentional and cared for. My only concern? It might be a little too comfortable — Coach came home and told me he caught a football player napping on the couch surrounded by pillows. Mrs. Reynolds may need to keep an eye on that!
