I’m excited to share one of my favorite essential oil blends: Peace & Calming. When I first opened my starter kit, this one didn’t immediately catch my attention. Over time, however, its warm, earthy scent grew on me and now I reach for it every single night.
Peace & Calming is a popular blend that combines tangerine, orange, ylang ylang, patchouli and blue tansy. The aroma is grounding and soothing, and for me it reliably supports a deeper, more restful night’s sleep.

I’m a fairly light sleeper and I wake easily—useful when caring for a young child, but not ideal when I want uninterrupted rest. Nights with too much screen time or a busy mind made it hard for me to fall asleep or to get back to sleep after being awakened. Now, a small roll of Peace & Calming on the bottoms of my feet before bed helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, while still letting me respond if my daughter needs me.
I find I drift off more quickly, return to sleep more easily, and am less disturbed by commonplace household noises. At the same time, I remain alert enough to respond to real needs—so it’s balanced, not sedating.
Here’s how Young Living describes Peace & Calming:
Peace & Calming® is a gentle, fragrant blend. When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night’s rest. Peace & Calming may be especially calming and comforting to young children after an overactive and stressful day.
I appreciate that this blend is suitable for children and can be used safely around many pets when applied appropriately.
The many uses of Peace & Calming:
- Before bedtime: Apply 1–2 drops to the bottoms of the feet and the back of the neck to encourage deep, restful sleep. This is a gentle routine you can use with children as well.
- Comfort for pets: Dab a small amount behind your pet’s ears during storms or other noisy, stressful situations to help soothe their nerves. Always observe your pet’s reaction and consult a veterinarian for any concerns.
- Calming children: Dilute a drop with a carrier oil and massage onto a child’s tummy or the bottoms of their feet to help diffuse frustration and reduce tantrums.
- Reduce teeth grinding: Diffuse 4–6 drops in the bedroom at night to create a calming atmosphere that may help lessen nighttime teeth grinding.
- Relaxing bath: Add 5–8 drops to a half cup of Epsom salt, mix into a warm bath, and soak for a peaceful, tension-relieving experience.
- On-the-go calm: Diffuse in the car or around the home to ease the energy of overactive children or a busy household.
- Everyday perfume: Apply to the wrists and behind the ears as a light, calming fragrance—useful before a stressful meeting or event.
- Soothing massage: Blend with coconut or another carrier oil for a relaxing massage that targets daily tension and stress.
- Post-play calm for pets: Rub a small, diluted amount on the back or behind the ears after energetic play to help hyperactive pets settle down.
- Anxiety support: Apply to the wrists, the edge of the ears, the neck and the bottoms of the feet to support feelings of calm during anxious moments or panic episodes.

- Keep a small bottle near your bedside for quick application at night, and consider a diffuser with a timer for consistent nightly use.
- When using with children or pets, always dilute as needed, use small amounts, and monitor for sensitivity.
