The Loft Bed and Full Bed
When selecting the bed configuration, safety and functionality were top priorities. I wanted stairs rather than a ladder so my daughter could easily come down in the middle of the night. We focused our search on loft beds with stairs, since climbing a ladder in the dark seemed risky for little ones.
Some loft and bunk designs offer storage built into the stairs, which is a convenient feature. The set we chose doesn’t have built-in stair storage, but it does provide ample space under the loft for the full bed below—perfect for added storage bins, a play area, or a cozy spot to hang out.
We selected a loft with a separate full bed underneath so the two pieces can be separated later if the girls decide they want their own rooms. Right now, the area under the loft serves as a full bed and a little hangout space; if needed, it can be rearranged into two standalone beds.
One feature I especially like is the desk built into the loft on the side opposite the stairs. With two small drawers, it makes a great homework station or a surface for drawing and crafts. I’m still waiting on a desk chair so I can finalize the room layout and wall decor, but the setup already feels practical and kid-friendly.
