Over the past few years I’ve moved away from full seasonal overhauls and toward gentler, more deliberate touches. Instead of filling every surface with small decor pieces, I prefer adding a few larger items and layering cozy textures and warm colors. This fall I kept things simple: I reshuffled pieces I already own, leaned on my large collection of faux pumpkins, and introduced a few new accents to create an inviting autumn atmosphere.
Most of the updates are concentrated in the living and dining rooms, with a few touches in the entryway and kitchen. The dining room is still a work in progress—I shared my plans to give it a fuller makeover in my home goals—but even while the space evolves I’m enjoying decorating in stages and using what I love now.
Fall in the Entry Way
I added just a few seasonal elements to the entry way to set the tone as soon as you walk in. A jute rug, a simple pendant, and a well-placed vase help create a cozy, welcoming first impression without feeling overdone.

I took a chance on an affordable set of faux hydrangea stems that arrived flattened in their packaging. They looked questionable at first, but a little fluffing brought them back to life. Five stems filled the vase beautifully for a fraction of the price of higher-end stems, and they give the entry a soft, seasonal touch without fuss.
Fall in the Dining Room
In the dining room I used a few well-chosen pieces to introduce fall color and texture. A small bunch of blue hydrangea stems brightened a side table when paired with a ceramic vase. I also added a new plaid tablecloth, rust-colored napkins, copper chargers, and napkin rings—simple swaps that make the table feel ready for Thanksgiving or a cozy autumn dinner.
For the centerpiece I displayed a recent DIY project: chinoiserie pumpkins I painted and decorated myself. They’re an easy craft that gives the table a unique, collected feel without being overwhelming.
I also brought some seasonal pieces into a new china cabinet that I inherited from my grandmother. Styling that cabinet has been a pleasure—I’ve already started collecting items I can display there, and the cabinet gives the dining room a warm, personal focal point. On another shelf sits a pear platter I purchased specifically for display; it adds a nod to classic, vintage-inspired decor that ties into the palette I’ll use for the larger dining room makeover.
I did add a couple of new velvet pumpkins to my collection this year. They’re plush and rich in color—small, impactful pieces that make seasonal styling feel elevated without being trendy.
Fall in the Living Room
The living room received the usual autumn touches: my pumpkin-and-hydrangea dough bowl centerpiece on the built-ins, a few extra faux pumpkins scattered for balance, and layered textures on the mantel. I kept some pieces that already worked—candlesticks that have been on the mantel since last winter and olive topiaries that swapped in for bay leaf versions—so the look feels cohesive and calm.
On the mantel I added a favorite faux pumpkin and a wood chain accent and left the artwork on the TV as-is since I still like it. In a cozy corner of the room I placed large artisan vases with maple leaf stems for height and visual interest. I also ordered a couple of cable-knit pillow covers on clearance to add texture—those haven’t arrived yet, but I’m looking forward to the softer, layered look they’ll bring.

Fall in the Kitchen
In the kitchen I used printable art in navy and orange tones to add seasonal color to a small corner shelf. Otherwise, the kitchen looks much the same as it did after my reveal earlier this year—clean, bright, and ready for holiday baking. I’ll be adding more festive accents for Christmas, but for now the printable pieces add a quick, affordable seasonal update.

Autumn arrived quickly this year, but a few simple swaps and a handful of new favorites were all I needed to bring warmth and seasonal charm to the house.
