Some feminine office decor in my blush and brass home office is the perfect spot for any entrepreneur to focus and get work done. The combination of blush and brass feels pretty, uplifting, and wonderfully inspiring for a girly workspace.
I mentioned in my 2020 Home Goals post that my first full makeover in the new house would be my office. It’s the project I wanted to tackle first and I’m excited to share the process and ideas I’m using to create a space that motivates me to work and be creative.
As I begin updating rooms in the house, I’m finding that decorating one room at a time is essential. Inspiration is everywhere and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the choices. Having a home goals list and a focused mood board has helped me narrow decisions and concentrate on each room without getting bogged down by indecision.

How to Start a Room Makeover
I like to begin a makeover with one large, inspirational item—often a rug, curtains, or a piece of art—and build the rest of the room around that anchor. These larger elements usually set the dominant color palette and tone, which makes later decisions much easier.
In my office, I started with the rug out of necessity. When we moved in, I needed a rug immediately to protect the newly refinished floors from my rolling desk chair. I wanted a feminine feel, so I searched for a blush rug and quickly found one I loved. That rug became the center of the room’s color scheme and helped guide the rest of my choices.
A piece of advice I give myself when inspiration starts to feel overwhelming: if an item fits the space and you genuinely like it, go for it. Overthinking every choice leads to decision fatigue. Make a choice, live with it, and adjust as needed.
Why I Chose to Makeover the Office First
I find it hard to design the rest of the house when I’m working from an uninspiring room. The office is also one of the first spaces you see when you enter the home, so I wanted it to feel welcoming and intentional right away.
Here’s what the office looked like when we first moved in:
The bright green walls weren’t working for me, so the room was painted quickly to create a calmer canvas.
The overall plan is to update every room in the house eventually, but that will take time. The office won’t require a major renovation—mostly paint and thoughtfully chosen decor. Here’s my to-do list for the space:
- Finish organizing the space (mostly done).
Paint the walls Shoji White (Sherwin Williams)— I’ve shared my favorite white paint colors on the blog.- Add an overhead light (I’ll hire an electrician to run the wiring for a ceiling fixture).
- Add blinds to the French doors; I’m leaning toward bamboo shades for warmth and texture.
Remove old curtains& buy and hang new floral curtains (they’re ordered and arriving soon).Rug— selected and in place.- Make decorative panels for the back of the desk — materials are ready.
- Style the built-in bookshelves; I’m ordering a few accents and tweaking as I go.
- Order or DIY art for the wall behind the desk and other walls.
Hang calendar and art behind the desk.- Replace the knobs in the built-ins with matte brass or use rub-and-buff to tone down some of the shine.
I’ve crossed off a few items already, but there’s more to do. My goal is to have the office finished by April 1, and I’m optimistic I’ll make it.
