A dedicated guest bedroom is a lovely convenience. In our previous house the guest room doubled as my office, so hosting meant a last-minute tidy or moving things around. Now that I have a proper guest room with an en suite bathroom, hosting is effortless and more enjoyable.

Give guests a spot to open their suitcase rather than leaving it on the floor. A folding luggage rack with a lower shelf is ideal because it keeps shoes or smaller bags organized and off the bed.

2. Plenty of Towels and Washcloths

Stock a supply of soft bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths. Guests appreciate fresh, fluffy linens—especially if they’ve traveled—and having extras means they don’t need to ask or hunt through your linen closet.

3. Closet Space or Hooks

Provide a clear section of hanging space in the closet and a few hangers, or mount sturdy hooks on the wall for robes, coats, or bags. Peg board hooks are a flexible option for short-term stays.
