My Long-Awaited Living Room Photo Gallery Wall Reveal

I’m thrilled to finally share the finished photo gallery wall in my living room. This project has been in the making since last August, so it feels great to have it complete. We take our time around here and work within a budget—no TV-show timelines—just steady progress.

A space truly feels like home when you include personal, sentimental items: a grandmother’s handmade quilt, a grandfather’s hand-carved toy, or framed family photos. Those pieces tell the story of your life and the people you love.

Lately, so many photos live on phones or drives and never make it into print. That’s why I wanted to change our habit and display these memories where we can see and enjoy them every day. I’ve been guilty of letting pictures sit unseen, so starting with this gallery wall felt like a good place to begin.

This corner of the living room began with the Everett console table and a DIY abstract painting I made. At first the wall was filled with every album and random art I had on hand, and while it was full of memories, it looked cluttered and mismatched to me.

I decided to invest in a new table—the Everett foyer table from World Market—using birthday money I’d been saving. I also painted a large abstract piece to hang above it. To visually anchor the space, I bought five large white frames and planned to fill them with bold, simple photos.

It wasn’t an instant update. I actually waited more than a year to get prints that felt right. Last Christmas I temporarily filled the frames with seasonal printables and wrapping paper, but removed them after the holidays and left an intentionally minimal setup for a while.

After Christmas it looked clean but unfinished. I even had friends jokingly offer to bring their own photos to fill the frames. Meanwhile, I found a new basket at HomeGoods that fit perfectly under the left side of the table to hold blankets—the old one was too tall and narrow. I wish I had two matching baskets, but for now this single basket suits the space nicely.

This summer I added an antique nautical wheel I picked up on a trip to Franklin, Tennessee. It felt right above the console—an emblem of the ocean and, to me, a gentle reminder that even when life feels like rough seas, there’s a steady hand guiding the ship.

With that symbolic piece in place, filling the frames with photos of our daughters and family felt perfect. I ordered 11×14 prints from CVS—their poster size comes on glossy, high-quality photo paper. I was initially worried about the paper quality, but the prints arrived quickly, in less than a week, and looked great.

CVS makes it easy to order prints from their kiosk or online. You can even print directly from your phone or social accounts with their app, which removes excuses for not bringing your photos into the home.

When my photo package arrived I was genuinely excited—after waiting over a year, it felt like finishing a long, meaningful project. The prints were crisp and fit the frames perfectly, finally completing the look I’d imagined.

With the photos in place, the wall now has a calm, unified feel: large, simple images that let the faces and moments shine. I just have one small finishing touch left to complete the vignette, and I’m excited to reveal that soon.
